Biography
Brig. Gen. Shanna M. Woyak currently serves as the Director, National Capital Region (NCR) Medical Directorate and Director, transitional Intermediate Management Organization (tIMO) for the Defense Health Agency (DHA). She oversees, manages and directs all healthcare delivery for 30 Joint facilities, with 680,000 active duty members and beneficiaries, spanning seven states. As the Director, Brig. Gen. Woyak’s main priority is to maximize the medical readiness of our operational and medical forces. In addition, she serves the Air National Guard Assistant to the Chief of the Nurse Corps, Office of the Surgeon General, Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church, Virginia. In this capacity, she assists the Chief Nurse of the Air Force in plans, policies, and standards as they relate to Air National Guard assigned nurses. She provides professional advice for the training and personnel utilization in peacetime and wartime. She serves as liaison between other military departments and civilian professionals.
 
Previous to her current assignment, General Woyak served as the Vice Wing Commander, 152d Airlift Wing, in Reno, Nevada. She functioned as the key advisor to the Air Commander to provide leadership, management, manpower, equipment, and training in peacetime, in preparation to perform the wartime mission. Accountable with the Air Commander, she directed policy and programming necessary to sustain readiness to over 1,110 airmen Wing wide. The 152d Airlift Wing was tasked to provide tactical C-130 air delivery capability to the State of Nevada and combatant commanders, and to fight large scale aerial firefighting by employing the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System.
 
General Woyak received a direct commission as an Air Force Clinical Nurse in February 1995. She began her military career in July 1986 as an Airman First Class, on active duty, serving in multiple patient care roles to include obstetrics, operating room, emergency medicine, air transportable hospitals, and a flying ambulance surgical trauma team. She was stationed at Torrejon Air Base, Spain and Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma which had a USAF hospital during this time. As a member of the Air National Guard, General Woyak served as a Clinical Nurse in both Aeromedical Evacuation and Medical Group in the Oklahoma Air National Guard and as a Chief Nurse Executive in the Arizona Air National Guard. She deployed in 2002, as the Chief Nurse, assigned to the 10th Expeditionary Medical Operations Squadron, Combined Task Force, Incirlik, Air Base, Turkey in support of Operation Northern Watch and in 2007, as a Staff Nurse, assigned to the 332nd Expeditionary Medical Group, Joint Force Theater Hospital in Balad, Iraq. In 2012 General Woyak was appointed the Medical Group Commander for the 152nd Airlift Wing, Nevada Air National Guard Reno, Nevada. She provided leadership and direction to over 100 full-time and traditional military medical personnel. In this role, General Woyak also served as the leader for the Nevada Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and high-yield Explosives (CBRNE) Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP) Medical element. She was responsible to provide wing advisement on the healthcare continuum and medical readiness of over 1000 Airmen assigned to the Airlift Wing. Further, she served as the A4 - Director of Logistics for the Nevada National Guard, Carson City, Nevada. As the Director, she integrated and coordinated the emergency management and federal mission sets using the full spectrum of the state's logistical capabilities. In her role, she leveraged the distribution and management of equipment, fuels and vehicles for exercises and contingency operations.
